Thanksgiving Tablescape

Thanksgiving is almost here! Don’t freak out if you’re hosting, I’ve got you covered with ideas on how to create a tablescape that’s inviting for conversation and enjoying time with family and friends. There’s no need to buy all new pieces if you’re hosting Thanksgiving. I like to pull from my hosting essentials that I reach for all the time, while adding special touches that tie to Thanksgiving. Here are some of my top tips for creating a Thanksgiving tablescape so you can host with ease.

  • Dishes: I like to pull out my wedding china for holidays. Don’t worry if you don’t have china, any neutral dish is perfect! If you have special dishes that tie back to thanksgiving, those are great too.

  • Napkins: Quality napkins add a nice touch. I always turn to Pottery Barn for these and like a linen or cotton napkin. Napkins are where I like to bring in color or a pattern. My china has a green boarder, so I have a set of green linen napkins from Pottery Barn that have a ruffle detail.

  • Napkin Rings: I think these are overlooked and a great reminder to buy some! My mother in law gave me bow napkin rings she got at a Christmas market in Germany that I love. I love bows and to tie in the look, I lay the napkins horizontally across the plates, putting the napkin ring in the center so the napkin looks like a bow.

  • Table Runner: I normally don’t use table runners for everyday hosting, but holidays are a perfect time to pull them out because they add an elevated look to your table. I like to stick with a neutral table runner if I’m bringing color into my tablescape through napkins. You can also find seasonal table runners if that’s the vibe you’re going for. Pottery Barn is my go-to again and I have an off-white linen runner that goes with everything. Always remember to iron/steam your runner, especially if it’s linen.

  • Placemats: Pulling from my hosting essentials again! I don’t have a ton of storage space, so I use a classic placemat that also adds texture to your tablescape. Pottery Barn has my favorite.

  • Glasses: A classic water glass is a staple in my china cabinet. I love these glasses for water and they go with everything. I pair them with a wine glass, red or white depending on preferences. Here are my favorite red wine and white wine glasses. They both come in a set of 8 and if you buy the set you are saving vs buying the glasses individually.

  • Candles: Candles make your table cozy and inviting. My Mariposa candlesticks are always at the center of my table. Candles are also a fun way to tie in an accent color. Local MKE gals, Sendik’s has a good selection. I also like to add smaller votives to add a little more sparkle.

  • Center Piece: Fresh flowers are always my go-to and I like to keep them simple, typically a mix of hydrangeas unless it’s peony season! I also like to add something seasonal that ties back to the holiday. Mini faux pumpkins are a great way to do this. Here is the set I have and I sprinkled them throughout the center of the table.

  • Table Gift: When my grandparents hosted holidays growing up they always had a little table gift at each place. I love this tradition and carrying it on not only makes me think of my grandpa, but it also makes my guests feel special. A small chocolate turkey is perfect for Thanksgiving. Local gals, Winkie’s has a couple of different options.
