January Dinner Party: Apres Ski

One of my goals this year is to host a dinner party every month. My family loves to ski and for my January theme I thought it would be fun to lean into winter with an apres ski fondue dinner party. It’s the perfect time of year for a cozy meal!

The joke’s on me because I had fun planning and of course my family and I got sick the week of, so I sadly had to cancel, table set and all! I didn’t want to waste what I got for my dinner party, so when everyone was feeling better, I repurposed to a family fondue night after my kids got home from ski school. Not the exact vision I had in mind, but still apres ski!

Menu:

  • The menu was pretty simple to plan, since the focus was fondue. I’m always for making things easy and my lovely husband picked up pre-made fondue from the grocery store. This is the way to go if you are having fondue because all you have to do is heat it up.

  • To pair with the fondue, a french baguette, broccoli and cauliflower are musts.

  • I also planned to serve tenderloin with the fondue, but I had to pivot at the last min and instead sauteed chicken sausage we had on hand.

  • Grab some cornichons as a little pickled side.

  • For dessert, I wanted something on the lighter side, so I got fresh strawberries and Swiss chocolate truffles (milk and dark).

Tablescape:

  • I knew the fondue pot would be the centerpiece and I wanted to use pops of red.

  • I found the perfect fair isle paper placemats from Hester & Cook and paired these with their kraft paper runner. What’s great about Hester & Cook is that their paper pieces are disposable, which makes cleanup easy without sacrificing style.

  • I pulled the rest of my tablescape pieces from the hosting essentials I have on hand.

  • I love using my Nora Fleming serving platters (I used the large serving platter for bread, large serving bowl for veggies and small serving tray for meat) and had a ski charm, champagne charm and red wine charm to tie in the theme.

  • To add a special touch, I ordered Swiss chocolate bars and tied red satin ribbon around them as a little table gift.

Cross your fingers we’re healthy for my February dinner party and stay tuned for Galentine’s ideas!

Happy hosting!
